Cancer Council - Crunch&Sip
Crunch&Sip® is a primary school nutrition program delivered by Cancer Council WA and funded by Healthway. Developed to increase the amount of vegetables, fruits and water being consumed by Western Australian children, Crunch&Sip® is an easy way to help kids stay healthy and happy during class time!
Students bring vegetables and/or fruit in a reusable container and a clear water bottle to school each day for the Crunch&Sip® break, which occurs at a set time during class. Giving students the chance to re-fuel in class with vegetables and fruit helps to improve physical and mental performance and concentration, as well as promoting long term health.
Providing further support to WA families, Crunch&Sip also delivers free Packed with Goodness sessions to parents of primary school aged children around packing healthy lunchboxes and building healthy habits in the home. These sessions are further supported by Crunch Bites, a podcast for parents that discusses all things children nutrition!
Cancer Council - SunSmart
Cancer Council WA supports schools in implementing effective, evidence-based sun protection strategies through the SunSmart program. With two in three Australians being diagnosed with skin cancer in their lifetime, protecting children and teens from overexposure to UV continues to be crucial to reduce their risk. SunSmart aims to ensure that: all students can access sun protective environments such as having shade and sun safe uniforms; and students, staff and the community know how to protect themselves from UV.
We can assist with:
- The national SunSmart Schools membership program. SunSmart Schools meet minimum requirements, ensuring that students and teachers are being sun safe.
- Resources to support teachers. Our Generation SunSmart website is the go-to for free online professional learning modules and curriculum-linked learning activities for the classroom.
