My passion for Public Education began as a Primary School Teacher working in the Kimberley, Serpentine and Armadale areas. I was very fortunate to receive wonderful support from the P&C groups and families, and I valued that immensely. When my own daughter began Kindy, I resigned from teaching and worked part-time in our family business. I saw joining the South Thornlie Primary P&C as a terrific opportunity to meet new people, hear about the strengths of the school and learn new skills to collectively support the school community to further enrich the students’ educational experience. I’ve been paying it forward, so to speak.
Since my P&C volunteering journey began in 2010, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed making new friends and working collaboratively with parents, carers, staff, local shire, businesses and politicians. WACSSO has been so supportive. I’ve developed President and Secretary skills and attended Annual Conferences where I’ve been inspired by so many WA P&C volunteers. I truly believe that it takes a village to raise a child. I transitioned to the Thornlie SHS P&C in 2018 and again formed such good friendships and camaraderie that I’ve extended my P&C membership beyond my daughter’s 2023 graduation, as have two other parents.
I’ve had involvement with a multitude of fundraising activities and learned grant writing tips and tricks from City of Gosnells and WACSSO workshops to successfully apply for several grants, which enabled our P&C to purchase resources or hold school events. I’ve always been a strong advocate for road safety around schools and helped coordinate many riding & walking activities as a parent member of YOUR MOVE groups. My real joy, though, has been mentoring and assisting in after-school clubs such as LEGO, FLL Robotics, Chess and more recently at Breakfast Club.
As a WACSSO State Councillor, I look forward to working with the affiliates in the Canning West Region, where I’ve lived for over 50 years. I hope to communicate with you effectively and efficiently, ask for your thoughts on issues, and convey your opinions to our State Council.
If invited, I’d be very happy to visit your P&C Association during the day or evening to introduce myself and learn about your achievements, goals, and challenges. If you’d like to know more about my role and how I can assist you, please send me a text or an email, and I’ll reply in a timely manner.
